If you are also facing similar issues then stay tuned. We have come up with a few workarounds to fix the Efficiency mode not working on Windows 11.

What is Efficiency Mode in Windows 11?

The efficiency mode is a part of Microsoft’s Sustainable Software Initiative. Adding the efficiency mode in the Task Manager helped reduce the CPU’s stress; it lowered the heat and the fan noise. The overall performance was heavily improved. Surprisingly, the efficiency mode sounds like a new feature, but it is not. A similar feature was also available in Windows 10, named Eco Mode. But Microsoft made a few enhancements with the Efficiency Mode, even changing the entire outlook of the Task Manager for it. So, what does it do? The efficiency mode stops the background processes from interfering with the foreground processes. It reduces the process priority of the background tasks, meaning Windows won’t spend the necessary resources on these applications. It also uses something called the EcoQos. It is a Quality of Service package that reduces the clock speed.

Not all Windows 11 running computers are eligible for the efficiency mode. The mode is not available on the older versions of Windows 11. It was added with the Windows 11 22H2 update. 2. Navigate to Windows Updates.
  3. Click Update History on the right side.

If the same has happened to you, it is possible the efficiency mode may not work on your Task manager even after getting the 22H2 update. The only option is to use ViveTool to make the Task Manager revert to the new layout. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Download ViveTool from GitHub.
  2. You will get a ZIP file. Extract the contents of the ZIP file into a folder.
  3. Copy the path of the extracted folder. Right-click the folder and select Copy as path from the drop menu.
  4. Launch Command Prompt with administrator rights.
  5. Type “cd” and paste the path of the folder.
  6. Hit Enter.
  7. After that, type the following four commands and execute.
  8. After executing the command, close the command prompt window. Restart the computer and after that, launch Task Manager. The Task Manager should have the modified look, and the Efficiency Mode should work.
